Interim committees of the New Mexico Legislature have started meeting, and we are monitoring workplans and agendas for any hearings that include liquor license issues. The workplan of the Economic Development and Policy Committee, which Rep. Antonio Maestas chairs, indicates “liquor license reform and its economic impact” will be addressed sometime between August 8 and November 29, 2022.

Other interim committee workplans are less specific, however, the Revenue Stabilization and Tax Policy Committee and the Rural Economic Opportunities Task Force could also request an update from the Alcohol Beverage Control division.

Meanwhile, the lobbying team engaged by the New Mexico Alcohol Alliance has its collective “ear to the ground” for news about the legislature’s direction on alcohol-related issues in the 2023 session. We have reason to believe that reform has not concluded.
